What To Do With Your Broken Jewelry

Every time I get a pixie cut I always feel like I have to go buy a ton of hair accessories to make me feel more girly. In stead of paying $6-12 on a bow I found some broken jewelry lying around and made hair accessories.

Things you will need

  • Something for the middle- I used pendants from my broken jewelry. You don’t have to, you could use beads, reign stones, buttons, toys, ect.
  • Lace- I just used some I had lying around the house. You can buy lace from any craft store or fabric store.
  • Light fabric- I used felt just because that’s what I had laying around.
  • Needle and thread
  • Hot glue gun
  • A clip- You can also buy these from any craft stores. I bought mine from Joanne’s a pack of 5 for like $1.95
  • Alt to the clip a pin back if you would rather make pins rather than hair accessories.

Step one

Take your needle and thread and make loose stitches across the bottom of the lace. Then push the lace towards the end of the knot, make it scrunches together. Till you feel your flower is full enough. Different kinds of lace will make different styles of flowers.  Tie a knot and cut off the left over thread.

Step two

Cut a circle from your fabric. Big enough to put your lace flower on but not big enough to be really noticeable. It doesn’t have to be perfectly round its just going to be the base; no one will be able to see it.

Step three

Hot glue your lace flower to the fabric circle. Try to center it.

Step four

Hot glue your pendant to the center of the lace flower.

Step five

Hot glue the clip or pin back to the back.

TA DAH!

You can also clip your hair pieces to heels, flats, or bags to give them some extra flair.

I will do another tutorial  on how to do the pink bow soon.

Spider Threads by Miss Jade's is now doing tote bags!
Tote bags are nice because you don't need a specific size like you do with shoes. Every woman needs a tote bag and cant have to many. They take about two hours to do instead of four hours like the shoes. Here are some tote bags Ive already done.

Decorating Luggage

We have had this old suit case laying around the house forever.  I saw it the other day and  immediately thought that poppies belonged on it. After I painted the poppies I realized that they needed some magical fairy dust.

I love drawing and painting on old every day objects and making  them more interesting.

Face Painting

I have recently taken up face painting and I LOVE IT! I love to paint and I love children so its the perfect combination. I would love to make this a career. Let me know if you would want any face painting done or know of anything that could help me make face painting a job.
Thank you my dear friend Cyndi and  the adorable Oakason girls for letting me paint on your face.

Childhood friends

I find it amazing how the 15 page books, or the half hour cartoons we read and watched as children can have such a lasting impression. I find my self quoting children's books daily, When Im at a stop light I catch myself saying "Go dogs go the light is green now" or "stop dogs stop the light is red now". When people make fun of my shortness I always tell them " A persons a person no matter how small". I often wonder if the writers knew that their sweet simple rhymes were going to last for years or if they knew parents and children alike would be quoting them. I wonder if Dr Seuss knew that his rhymes would be used to teach children about tolerance, trying knew things, or given to graduates and missionarys. Those wonderful books and pictures get children to imagine and pretend to be the wild things while their parents read. I think it takes a special kind of person to be able to create such a safe haven for children. But lets not forget the wonderful illustrators that are able to bring these stories to life. Jumanji wouldn't be nearly as intriguing if it weren't for the beautiful  pictures. The mitten would be nearly as effective if it weren't for the pictures, imagine a bear climbing inside of a mitten, with the aid of the beautiful illustrations Jan Brett you can and it sparks your imagination to other possibility. I feel it is very important that children develop these friendships with Arthur, Sam I Am, the star bellied sneetches Max and his wild things, the man in the yellow hat and his pet monkey. So they can learn and take advantage of the wonderful things these simple rhymes have to offer.

First of the Hopefuly Many Childrens Shoes

I do custom shoes. I have been doing custom shoes for about six months now. So I am very new and still constantly learning, I still have a lot to lean. If you have any suggestions or techniques please let me know, I would love to learn more. I just recently the last couple days started doing children’s shoes. Please do not assume that just because the shoes are smaller it is quicker and easier. I have found that they take longer than drawing on adult shoes, or at least it seems like it. If you are doing children shoes I highly recommend that you do not just use the regular fine point sharpies. For detail you really need the ULTRA fine point sharpies. When doing children’s shoes you need to be a lot more exact because you have far less room to work with. But you can get away with doing some fun, colorful, and fairietastic designs. These are the first of the hopefuly many children’s shoes :)
